MoMo Dumplings म:म: or मोमो - a Nepalese Delicacy
Momo Dumplings म:म: or मोमो is the one of the most popular and loved Nepalese
dishes in Nepal and across the world!
It is commonly a bite size dumpling with meat or vegetable stuffing wrapped in a dough sheet prepared using whole purpose flour. The uniqueness of Nepalese
momos lie in its stuffing. As per one’s dietary preferances, one may use variety of ground meat for the stuffing such as chicken, turkey, lamb, goat and pork; and
similarly, for vegetraian stuffing, one may use cabbage, carrots, and even potatoes. In this post, I am sharing a tasty and health conscious recipe for chicken Mo:Mo:
from my wife.
What to serve with MoMos?
One can use different kinds of sauce or soup to eat their momos with. In this post, I have shared instructions for an easy recipe to prepare tomato chutny
that goes quite well with this dish.
How do you make MoMos?
Recipe:

Cooking Utensil
- Steamer
1.1. Ingredients for Chicken stuffing:
- 1.5 lb ground chicken
- 1 large finely chopped Onion
- 6 cloves minced Garlic
- About 2 inch finely chopped Ginger
- 1 Tbsp each of Paparika powder; Turmeric powder; and Corriander powder
- Half cup chopped Cilantro
- 1 Tsp of Garam masala powder
- Salt to taste
- 2 Tbsp of Soysauce
- One Egg
- 2 Tbp of grated Butter
1.2 Ingredients for Tomato Chutny:
- 2 large chopped tomatoes
- 1 large finely chopped Onion
- 2 cloves minced Garlic
- 1 inch of finely chopped Ginger
- 1/4 cup chopped Cilantro
- 1/4 cup chopped Green Onions
- 2 Tbp of Vegetable Oil
- 1/2 Tbsp Corn Starch
- Salt to taste
- In a large bowl, add all the ingredients from instructions step 1.1. and mix well with your hand.
- In a hot pan, add 1 tbsp oil. Next, add the chopped onions, garlic and ginger, and cook until light brown in color.
- Add chopped tomatoes, and salt to taste. Let it simmer for 2-3 mins.
- Add some corn starch mixed in 300 mL water, and let it simmer for another 5 mins in low heat
- Finally, add some chopped cilantro and chopped green onions. Done.
- One can make their own momo wrappers using dough prepared from whole purpose flour. However, there is an option to buy a ready- made wrappers from an Asian market.

- While you are filing the MoMo stuffing in the wrappers; place steamer on your stove and get it ready
- Fill the MoMos and keep it a side until the steamer is ready
- Add the MoMo in the steamer and let it cook for about 18 mins
- Serve while hot!!
