Fish Curry - SPICY version!


Spicy Fish “माछा “ Curry is a delicious dish that can be easliy be prepared in a short amount time. It is full of falvors, and is commonly served with plain white rice. Please give it a try :)

How to make the fish curry?

Cooking Utensil

  • Frying pan (preferably a cast iron pan)

1. Ingredients :

  • 2 lb Fish (Tila pia or any fresh water fish)
  • 1 large finely chopped Onion
  • 6 cloves minced Garlic
  • ~2 inch finely chopped Ginger
  • 1/2 cup chopped Tomatoes
  • 1/3 cup chopped Cilantro
  • 1 Tbsp ground Mustard powder
  • 1 Tsp of hot Cayenne pepper powder
  • 2 Bay leaves
  • 2 Dry red peppers
  • 1 Tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1/2 Tsp Fenugreek seeds
  • 1 Tbsp each of Paparika powder; Turmeric powder; and Corriander powder
  • 1 Tsp of Garam masala powder
  • 1 cup whole purpose flour
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil to fry

Preparing the curry

Step: 2.1 Frying the Fish

  • Cut and wash the fish
  • In a large bowl, add all the whole purpose flour, salt, cayenne pepper, tumeric, paparilka powder and mix well.
  • Coat the cut fish in the above mix one at a time
  • In hot a pan and add about 1 cup oil
  • Fry the fish until golden brown
  • Keep the fried fish aside in a different container

    Step: 2.2 Preparing the gravy

    1. In a hot pan, add 1 tbsp oil. Next, add Bay leaves, Cumin seeds, Fenugreek seeds, and dry red chilli peppers;and fry well
    2. Next, add the chopped onions, garlic and ginger; and fry until golden brown
    3. Add mustard powder, paparika, cayenne, turmeric, and coriander powder, and cook for a couple of mins
    4. Add chopped tomatoes, and cook very well until dark brown in color
    5. Add garam masala
    6. Add about 2 cups of water, and bring it boil
    7. Finally, add the fried fish and bring it boil, and add the cilantro.
    8. Serve with white rice
